Joan Baixas, painter and stage director, performs shows and actions with intense visual content, based on live painting, the animation of objects and the projection of images, which tell small contemporary stories.
He directed the Teatro de la Claca company (1968 - 1998) where, while traveling the world in a van, he collaborated with artists such as Joan Miró, Roberto S. Matta, Antonio Saura, Lluís Pasqual, Minstrels, Circus Oz and with musicians, actors and dancers .
He presents his work in all kinds of spaces, from the street and popular centers to emblematic places such as Center Pompidou, Tate Modern, Sydney Opera House, Teatro del Liceo, Guggenheim Museum in New York and Bilbao, Hongkong Arts Festival, ICA London, Saint Marc 's Church in New York, Indira Ghandhy Arts Center in New Delhi, Arabanna Community in Marree, South Australia.
He has directed the Barcelona Visual Theater Festival, multitudinary shows and collaborations in television, fashion and advertising.
He has published poetry and articles about his professional experience and has developed a pedagogical work at the Instituto del Teatro de Barcelona, Rose Bruford College in London and other international art schools.
He currently continues his professional activity with shows, exhibitions and directing collective projects.

DAURRODÓ, show in collaboration with the Brazilian artist Cildo Meireles, created at the TNC-Teatro Nacional de Cataluña, part of the Barcelona Greek Festival 2016 programme.
LA NAVE DE LOS LOCOS, exhibition of sculptures and installations at TOPIC in Toulouse, 2016. The exhibition begins its international tour at the Festival Mondiales des Theaters de Marionettes in Charleville-Mézières, September 2017.
DIABLO!, creation show based on a text by Fernando Pessoa, Teatr Animacij de Poznan (Poland), 2017.
THE SHADOW OF FEAR, installation in collaboration with the Iranian artists Hesam Rahmaniam, Rokni Erizadé and Ramin Erizadé (2016 Macba award from the Nefkens Foundation), production Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona.
